Mar 11, 2007 - Laurie becomes a Resident for a Day - Laurie joined the staff of Residents at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for the morning and, as "Dr. Hawn", made the rounds in the emergency ward. He dealt with real patients (under very close supervision) and got a feel for the challenges faced by our healthcare professionals.

Mar 10, 2007 - Laurie and Judy attended the annual gala to raise money in support of STARS Air Ambulance. STARS provides life-saving service all over Alberta and hundreds of Albertans are still around because of their great work.

Mar 10, 2007 - Laurie joins Safeway for We Care Day 2007 - Laurie spent six hours of his Saturday helping to support charities at three different Safeway stores in the riding. He met many constituents and helped to raise money to keep kids off meth, rescue animals, and to combat muscular dystrophy.

Mar 9, 2007 - Laurie joins Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) - Laurie and Judy attended a dinner commemorating the the First World War Battle of Moreuil Wood, where this Edmonton-based regiment performed heroically. The history and traditions of our military are an important part of what makes us all Canadians.
Mar 9, 2007 - Laurie participates in a roundtable discussion with the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women (IAAW). As part of his ongoing support for the IAAW and other aboriginal organizations, Laurie represented the government at a discussion with a dozen representatives of the aboriginal community. Issues discussed centred on the situation for women and children in Canada's aboriginal communities.

Mar 9, 2007 - Laurie participates in the signing of the Aboriginal Workplace Participation Initiative (AWPI). Assisting Hon. Jim Prentice, Laurie was part of the occasion to mark the signing of the AWPI agreement between all three levels of government. This agreement will help ensure that aboriginal Canadians can more fully participate in our strong economy.

Feb 18 - Laurie helps bring in the Lunar Year of the Pig - Laurie and Judy spent Sunday helping Premier Ed Stelmach, his wife Marie, and hundreds of members of Edmonton's Chinese community to ring in the Lunar Year of the Pig. Parades, speeches, fireworks, dragon dances, handing out good luck packets, and a wonderful dim sum highlighted a colourful day celebrating the Chinese heritage that is such an important part of Edmonton's history.
